Interview with Lady

Welcome and thank you for allowing me to asking you a few questions:

Tell us a little about yourself?

Thank you for inviting me to participate in this interview. My name is Lady Prudence Hampton-Bond — my friends call me ‘Lady’. I am twice widowed, mother of two boys — well, I suppose they are grown-up men now. I am a free spirit, art-lover, adventurer and lover of life.

What Star Sign are you?

I’m a Scorpio and I have been known to have a sting in my tail, just ask a few people who have crossed me in the past. So don’t get on the wrong side of me, and don’t you dare ask my age – you have been warned! (Intense stare)

What is your favourite food?

Well, I really see food as fuel for my body and tend to eat healthy and often vegetarian meals during the week, but I couldn’t live without the ‘posh chicken dinner’ at the wonderful restaurant ‘Chez Marc’ and, of course, washed down with a glass or two of a fine Chablis. Emm… that makes me think I should book a table.

Have you always been interested in Knitting?

When I was first married I took up knitting for something to keep me occupied as I was a unable to work. You see my first husband had old-fashioned values about me staying at home to look after the boys. Knitting was a welcome distraction and I enjoyed being creative.

What project are you working on right now?

I’m working on a cable-knit poncho. I love the challenge of the working the cabling stitch.

Why ‘naked’ knitting?

I found out about the group from a friend and I was intrigued, so I trotted over and met Luna. I was the first to join, but now we are a cheery little bunch of knitting cohorts.

What do you do in your spare time, apart from Knitting?

(Throws head back and laughs) I’m always on the go. I am involved in so many foundations and charities, I hardly know if I’m coming or going. Well, I’ve got Henry, my butler, to look after me. He is such a gem. Really, I think of him as family, he has been with me so long. How he puts up with me, I’ll never know.

What are your plans for Christmas?

Christmas is not my favourite time of year. Early December is spent going to endless charity Christmas events. So, come Christmas Eve, I jet off to enjoy some quality quiet time by a pool somewhere hot and sunny — well away from the bleak winter in London. Thank you, you’ve reminded me I need to get something organised.

Do have a knitting project in mind for next year?

Haven’t thought about that yet, but I’m sure I’ll find something.

If the book was to be made into a movie, who would you cast to play you?

Well, I am a huge fan of Dame Judy Dench, but perhaps she is a bit long in the tooth now – no offence dear girl (laughter). Perhaps Celia Imrie or even dear little Emma Thompson, might be game to play little old me.
